Sly pick-pocketing teens caught in the act
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 3:57pm. A woman and her baby were walking down Eastern Parkway, between Brooklyn and New York Avenues, when she was approached by five female blacks. They seemed to be acting friendly when they asked her what the baby’s name is. When the woman started responding, they cut her off by immediately asking another question. This made the woman apprehensive and as this was taking place she saw one of the females pick pocketing some money out of her back pocket. The woman immediately turned and grabbed her money away from the perpetrator. The group tried to make light of the matter by laughing it off and they walked away.
The woman called Shmira and members responded within a minute. The woman pointed out the group from half a block away and Shmira member followed for a short distance. An NYPD patrol car was flagged down on the corner of Kingston Avenue and Eastern Parkway and the officers stopped the group as they approached the intersection. The victim was brought over to identify the group, however, since she had gotten her money back she did not press charges and the group was let off with a warning.
Be aware of your surroundings at all times and do not let your guard down when approached by seemingly nice people. Summer is approaching and that means crime is unfortunately on the rise. Keep you eyes open and call Shmira and 911 immediately if you see anything suspicious.
