April 22, 2010 Filed under Shmira News

Tuesday April 20th 2010 at approximately 1:40 pm Shmira received a call that a Bochur was punched in the face by a fleeing shoplifter on Union street between Kingston and Brooklyn Shmira members responded to the scene within 2 minutes and were pointed in the direction to which the perpetrator fled, but he managed to disappear on President St. between Brooklyn and New York.

After an investigation it was found that this perpetrator shoplifted over $100 worth of merchandise from Auction Mart and also stole a full Hatzolah Pushke from the Hosiery store on Kingston Avenue, and when a couple of brave bochurim gave chase the Shoplifter assaulted one of them causing some minor injuries and breaking his glasses, he then managed to get away.

A Police report was made and a clear video was obtained from one of the stores showing clearly what the perpetrator looked like.

About one hour later the Shmira Hotline rang, the caller advised that there appeared to be someone hiding in a neighbor’s garage on President St. between Brooklyn and New York, Shmira members arrived quickly, suspecting that this must have been the guy they were looking for, when the Shmira members entered the Garage they realized that it was in fact the suspect in the assault and shoplifting and attempted to subdue him but the Suspect managed to slip out a side door of the garage and run for about half a block before he was apprehended by Shmira Members, he was then placed under arrest by NYPD who responded quickly and courteously.

The Perpetrator was subsequently charged with the assault and the shoplifting; all the stolen items were recovered and returned.
