SHMIRA HELPS NAB SCOOTER THIEVES

July 13, 2008 Filed under Shmira News

Friday, July 11, 2008: At approximately 7:30pm a Crown Heights resident parking his car in the alleyway situated between Montgomery Street, Empire Blvd., Brooklyn and New York Avenues noticed four suspicious looking African American children lurking in the alleyway. The resident decided to keep an eye on the suspicious bunch and it paid off when they walked in to one of the houses and exited with a scooter. The resident began following them and when they noticed him they began to run. The resident followed them into the Mobile gas station located on the corner of Empire Boulevard and New York Avenue where they sought safe haven.

The resident called the Crown Heights Shmira and 911. Shmira responded and after ten minutes and several calls to 911, gave up on waiting for a patrol car and went in to the precinct across the street. NYPD Officers came across the street and after some questioning the boys admitted to entering the house and stealing the scooter. Two arrests were made and the scooter was bagged and tagged as evidence for the time being.

Thank you to the responding Officers of the 71st precinct, especially the arresting Sergeant, for their professionalism and courtesy.
