Sunday, July 20, 2008 11:35pm: Shmira received a call form a concerned Crown Heights resident that an African American man was sprawled in the middle of the Street on Brooklyn Avenue between Crown and Montgomery Streets. Shmira members responded within seconds and learned that the man had fallen and injured his knee. The Shmira members, trained EMT’s asked the man whether he required first aid assistance to which the injured man responded that he was OK. The Shmira members then helped the injured man to the side of the road and away from oncoming traffic.
Shmira members then asked if he would like an ambulance to take him to the hospital to check out his knee but the injured man refused insisting that he was OK. The Shmira members then asked the injured man where he was headed and offered to give him a ride. Shmira members transported the injured man to his destination where he thanked the Shmira members for their kindness and for “looking out for him”.
