“ARMED” ROBBERY IN BROAD DAYLIGHT
July 16, 2008 Filed under Shmira News
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 5:45pm: A Crown Heights resident walking on Kingston Avenue (corner of President Street) was held up by an African American male around 35 years of age pretending to have a gun and demanded his belongings and money. The perpetrator placed his hand in a black plastic bag attempting to make it appear as if a gun was inside it. The victim responded by grabbing the bag and immediately realized that the gun was a hoax. The perpetrator realized that his bluff had been called and punched the victim in the face causing his cell phone to fall. The perpetrator then grabbed the phone and a camera from the victim and began to flee.
The victim borrowed a cell phone from a passerby and immediately called Shmira while giving chase to his attacker. For a moment he thought that he had lost the perpetrator until he noticed him in the alleyway (situated between Kingston to Albany Avenues and President to Union Streets). The victim alerted an NYPD foot post passing by and they immediately began to give chase through the alleyway. Meanwhile, Shmira members responding from Albany Avenue alerted another post to come from the other side. The Police Officers and Shmira members caught up to the perpetrator on the corner of Albany Avenue and Carroll Street where the Police placed him under arrest. The stolen property was recovered and thank G-d the victim was not seriously injured.
With the rise in crime that comes with the summer season Crown Heights Shmira is requesting that all residents remain alert and aware of your surroundings at all times.
