Tuesday August 5th, 2014, two Shmira CHSP volunteers were on night patrol at 3:45am when they heard a car alarm begin to sound from inside the alleyway on Albany avenue between Carroll street and Crown street.
They entered the alley and found a grey 15 passenger van with its door open, interior lights on and alarm ringing.
A search began and 2 male blacks in their late teens were found hiding behind a wall 10 feet away from the vehicle.
Backup units were requested over the Shmira radio and responded within seconds while the dispatcher called the police.
Police arrived quickly and a search of their possessions also revealed drugs in their pockets.
Shmira members were able to locate the owner of the vehicle, a non Jewish resident from crown street who thanked the alert Shmira volunteers.
Both men were promptly placed under arrest. And the 71st precinct sergeant thanked the Shmira for their professionalism and dedication.
A big Kiddush Hashem was made.
