SERIAL TIRE SLASHER APPREHENDED
January 10, 2013 Filed under Shmira News
Thursday, January 10, 2013 at approximately 2:00PM: A Crown Heights resident pulled his van over on Eastern Parkway between Kingston and Albany Avenues. He was approached by a male black wielding a long knife. The perpetrator began to scream at the resident threatening to puncture his tires unless he moved immediately. The resident immediately pulled out his phone, and began recording. After being clearly informed that he was being filmed, the perpetrator proceeded to walk over to the van and stab the tire repeatedly until it began to deflate.
Police and Shmira were called. When Shmira members arrived the perpetrator had already fled. A Shmira member noticed the perpetrator peering through the window of an apartment nearby and kept watch to ensure that he doesn’t flee. When Police Officers arrived they interviewed the victim, and watched the video clip from the victim’s phone. The Officers then rang the bell to the apartment where the perpetrator had fled. After ringing the bell multiple times the perpetrator answered the door while holding a young girl. The Officers escorted the perpetrator back inside and after a few short moments exited, with the perpetrator handcuffed. While being escorted to the Police car the perpetrator announced to the victim “I’m gonna do it again, I will pop your tires again.”
This same perpetrator has punctured many tires in the past. While standing and waiting for the police to arrive, multiple passersby approached to share their experiences with this same perpetrator. These were people who saw him puncturing others tires as well as one victim who said this perpetrator had punctured all four of his tires. The only common denominator between these cases was that no one had reported the crime to the police. Crown Heights Shmira would like to stress the importance of filing reports for crimes that have occurred. As far as the Police are concerned, if it wasn’t reported it never happened, and they are therefore unable to deal with it.
