SHMIRA PINS THIEF
June 6, 2008 Filed under Shmira News
Friday, June 06, 2008 at approximately 2:00pm a Crown Heights resident noticed a suspicious black man entering the premises of one of the houses on President Street between Brooklyn and New York Avenue. The suspicious man entered empty handed however exited soon thereafter carrying a FedEx box that had been dropped off on the porch in front of the house. The observer called Shmira and started following the suspicious man. The resident flagged down some Officers on foot patrol who in turn stopped the suspect. However, since the sticker with the owners name on it had been removed there seemed to be no way of proving who it belonged to and without a complainant the Officers would have to let the suspect go.
Shmira members arrived on scene and after being updated on the situation noticed that the sticker containing the tracking number was still on the box. The tracking number was immediately transmitted over the radio to another member who contacted FedEx, received the necessary information and was successful in tracking down the true owner of the box. The owner pressed charges and the perpetrator was arrested.
Compliments to the Officers of the PBBS for a job well done.
Leaving packages, mail or fliers at the door step attracts thieves and burglars. Shmira strongly advises homeowners to arrange for fliers to be removed and packages to be dropped off at a neighbor’s house when no one is home.
