Tefilin “BuyBack”

Sunday, August 17, 2014 approximately 2:00pm:  A Crown Heights resident had been unloading his vehicle on Union Street near Albany Avenue and returned to his car to notice his bag, containing a pair of tefilin*  had disappeared.  Shortly thereafter, the victim received a phone call from a man claiming to have his bag.

After inspecting the contents of the bag and seeing no items of value, he agreed to return the bag for a fee. At the advice of Shmira members the victim agreed to meet the thief. The thief arrived at the meeting point. He was confronted by Shmira members and Police Officers, and placed under arrest. The stolen property was returned to its rightful owner

*Tefillin, also called phylacteries, are a set of small black leather boxes containing scrolls of parchment inscribed with verses from the Torah, which are worn by observant Jews during weekday morning prayers
