Cyclist assaults woman

Friday, May 13th 2011, at approximately 11:18am: A woman was walking down Carroll Street (between Albany and Troy Avenues) when a male black, riding a bicycle hit her and rode off. The woman immediately called Shmira and members responded and began canvassing the area looking for the perpetrator.
Approximately an hour later, at 12:05pm a Shmira member noticed some Police Officers attempting to stop a male black on a bicycle,matching the description given earlier, near Eastern Parkway and Albany Avenue. The suspect fled and a brief chase ensued. With the help of a few Shmira members, the suspect was detained on President Street near Albany Avenue. The Shmira members immediately notified the Officers about the earlier incident and suggested that this may be the same perpetrator. The Officers agreed to hold the suspect for a short time while the victim was located.
Shmira members immediately made contact with the victim and a car was sent to pick her up. The woman was unable to positively identify the suspect as the same man that had attacked her earlier. The suspect is currently being held by the Police with charges pending.
