Multiple Break-Ins in Broad Daylight
January 30, 2013 Filed under Shmira News
Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at approximately 12:10pm: A Crown Heights Shmira member was on Montgomery Street between New York and Nostrand Avenues, when he heard someone screaming. Two cars had been broken into, and the perpetrator was getting away with the stolen goods. A bystander called 911, and the Shmira member immediately began to follow the perpetrator. When the Shmira member approached the perpetrator near New York Avenue, he quickly put the electronics he was holding under a nearby parked car and said that he didn’t do anything. The Shmira member then called the Shmira hotline and remained on the line with the dispatcher as he continued following the perpetrator up New York Avenue.
When the perpetrator reached Crown Street, he turned left and quickly ducked between two houses. The Shmira member waited for the perpetrator to emerge, and when he did he became violent with a witness who attempted to stop him. At that point, backup Shmira members arrived and subdued the perpetrator until police arrived on the scene. After the police detained the suspect, they proceeded to gather other various stolen goods, worth hundreds of dollars, from the surrounding area. These were items stolen by the perpetrator and stashed with the intent of returning later to retrieve them.
The perpetrator is being charged with larceny, criminal mischief and possession of stolen property. He is a career criminal with over 30 prior arrests ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. Crown Heights Shmira would like to thank all the Officers who responded with a special thanks to Lieutenant Weiss, Sergeant Jenkins and PO Silverstein for a job well done.
