IPHONE SNATCHER IN CROWN HEIGHTS

Friday, April 05, 2013 approximately 1:45PM: A bystander noticed a teenager snatch an iphone from an unsuspecting young woman who was standing on the corner of Troy Avenue and Carroll Street while texting. He immediately called the Crown Heights Shmira hotline. Shmira members responded and canvassed the area with the victim with no luck. In the meantime, 911 was called and Police officers arrived and checked the cameras from the grocery store on the corner but were only able to get a partial description of the perpetrator. Meanwhile, Shmira members were tracking the phone via the iphone GPS tracking, but it was ‘offline’.

Shmira’s partnership with the Police Department keeps bearing fruits!

The quick thinking action of a technology savvy Shmira volunteer brought a swift end to the careers of a pair of cell phone robbers. The pair had just robbed a Crown Heights resident of his I-phone and made a quick get away on their bikes. Eyewitnesses immediately called Shmira and a Shmira volunteer responded within minutes. The Shmira members & NYPD tracked the I-phone to Atlantic Ave and Marconi Place. Additional unites were dispatched to that location and were given a description of the bike riding I-phone thieves.
