Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at approximately 12:30 PM A Crown Heights resident noticed a group of four teens walking up to a porch on Carroll Street between Albany and Troy Avenues and taking three scooters. As the group was leaving the property they noticed they were being watched and dropped two of scooters and made off toward Troy Avenue.

Thursday, November 13, 2014 Approximately 3:45PM: A young man was walking down Carroll Street between Kingston and Albany when two thugs jumped him from behind. One perpetrator placed him in the a chokehold while yelling instructions to his partner, saying “take his wallet, take his cell phone”. The victim could not breath and let them take his belongings without putting up a fight.

Sunday, September 21, 2014 at approximately 10:45AM: The Crown Heights Shmira hotline received a call from a local store owner who witnessed someone spray painting the wooden panels outside a construction site on Carroll Street between Kingston and Brooklyn Avenue. Shmira members responded and met up with the caller who was following the perpetrator. After the caller pointed out the perpetrator he left and Shmira members continued discreetly following while waiting for police to respond. Read more

Monday, August 11, 2014 at 4:43PM A young boy entered the Family Dollar store on Lefferts Avenue and Kingston ave and left his bicycle outside. Upon exiting the store he spotted a male taking off with his bike. He immediately called Crown Heights Shmira requesting assistance. Tuesday August 5th, 2014, two Shmira CHSP volunteers were on night patrol at 3:45am when they heard a car alarm begin to sound from inside the alleyway on Albany avenue between Carroll street and Crown street.
They entered the alley and found a grey 15 passenger van with its door open, interior lights on and alarm ringing.

IPHONE SNATCHER IN CROWN HEIGHTS

Friday, April 05, 2013 approximately 1:45PM: A bystander noticed a teenager snatch an iphone from an unsuspecting young woman who was standing on the corner of Troy Avenue and Carroll Street while texting. He immediately called the Crown Heights Shmira hotline. Shmira members responded and canvassed the area with the victim with no luck. In the meantime, 911 was called and Police officers arrived and checked the cameras from the grocery store on the corner but were only able to get a partial description of the perpetrator. Meanwhile, Shmira members were tracking the phone via the iphone GPS tracking, but it was ‘offline’.
