Shmira Recovers Stolen Bike

Monday, August 11, 2014 at 4:43PM A young boy entered the Family Dollar store on Lefferts Avenue and Kingston ave and left his bicycle outside. Upon exiting the store he spotted a male taking off with his bike. He immediately called Crown Heights Shmira requesting assistance. Shmira members arrived on the scene and after getting a full description of the thief and his bike, they began a search. Read more

Woman Assaulted on Eastern Pkwy

Thursday, August 07, 2014 at 5:54PM The Shmira hot line received a call about a woman that was assaulted. The woman had been walking on Eastern Parkway near Rogers Avenue when a group of six females approached her and one of them punched her in the face while screaming anti-Semitic slurs. Read more

Shmira Tracks Stolen Phone

Wednesday August 6th 2014 at 5:30pm, the Shmira hotline lit up and a distraught caller stated that he dropped his cell phone outside his car as he was loading packages and that witnesses observed a black woman on a bicycle pick it up and leave without returning it to him.

A Shmira member who specializes in tracking lost and stolen phones got right to work. Read more

Midnight Break-in

Tuesday August 5th, 2014, two Shmira CHSP volunteers were on night patrol at 3:45am when they heard a car alarm begin to sound from inside the alleyway on Albany avenue between Carroll street and Crown street.

They entered the alley and found a grey 15 passenger van with its door open, interior lights on and alarm ringing.

Swastika Tagging @ 350 Lefferts

August 3, 2014 at 11:30am crown heights Shmira CHSP received a report about swastikas painted inside 350 Lefferts Avenue, a crown heights apartment building.

Shmira units responded and indeed found a total of 8 swastikas painted on the wall of the stairwell.

Multiple Break-Ins in Broad Daylight

Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at approximately 12:10pm: A Crown Heights Shmira member was on Montgomery Street between New York and Nostrand Avenues, when he heard someone screaming. Two cars had been broken into, and the perpetrator was getting away with the stolen goods. Read more

SERIAL TIRE SLASHER APPREHENDED

Thursday, January 10, 2013 at approximately 2:00PM: A Crown Heights resident pulled his van over on Eastern Parkway between Kingston and Albany Avenues. He was approached by a male black wielding a long knife. The perpetrator began to scream at the resident threatening to puncture his tires unless he moved immediately. The resident immediately pulled out his phone, and began recording. After being clearly informed that he was being filmed, the perpetrator proceeded to walk over to the van and stab the tire repeatedly until it began to deflate. Read more
